What is Kambo?

Kambo is a traditional and natural remedy used by the tribes of the Amazon also referred to as Sapo or Akaté (Latin name - Phyllomedusa bicolor). The medicine is a poison secreted from the South American Tree Frog which induces a deep cleanse of body, soul and mind. It serves as a natural antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and analgesic.

Traditionally, the medicine was used by the tribes to be better hunters, cure many diseases and cleanse bad energies. The medicine creates a healthy stressor for the body. It’s known to have the following effects:

  • Physical, energetic and emotional cleansing of the body to help dispose of toxins and stuck energy

  • Physical strength and endurance

  • Spiritual and mental clarity

  • Addresses illness, health conditions and chronic diseases, including anxiety and depression

  • Luck, zest of life and improves overall well-being

Treatment, Effects & Benefits

Treatment.

Approximately 15 minutes prior to treatment, you’ll drink 1.5 - 2 liters of lukewarm water.

The medicine is applied via superficial burns on the skin, also known as gates (number varies per individual), made by a tamshi or incense stick. After the gates are created, the skin is removed and then the medicine is formed into tiny circles, wettened,  and applied to each of the wounds. The application process will be done to a location on the body selected beforehand.

**Pease note, depending on skin type and aftercare, burn marks may be visible for months following treatment

Effects.

When applied, the medicine is absorbed into the Lymphatic system then enters into the bloodstream.

Effects are short-lived, but intense with the entire process taking around 10-40 minutes. The effects will vary in intensity and per person depending on the individual, dosage and application area. Somatic releases show up in a variety of ways unique to the individual.

Bioactive Peptides in Kambo.

Bioactive peptides form from two or more amino acids coming together and play a significant role in human health due to their affect on the digestive, endocrine, cardiovascular, immune and nervous system. This is why bioactive peptides can affect the health of a person, and when there is a lack of peptides in the body, one is more prone to disease.

The secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog has many peptides, including: Adenoregulin,  bombesin,  bombesin-nonapeptide,  bradykinin, caerulein, deltorphin, dermaseptin, neurokinin B, phyllomedusin, phyllocaerulein, phyllokinin,  phyllolitorin,  preprotachykinin  B,  ranatachykinin  A, sauvagine, T-kinin and urechis tachykinin

Each peptide in Kambo has a different function and is responsible for different physical symptoms one can experience during a Kambo treatment, such as nausea, vomiting, facial flush, tachycardia, changes in blood pressure, sweating, abdominal discomfort and urge for defecation etc.

The peptides in Kambo are also responsible for the healing benefits of the medicine, as some have properties that are antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, antidepressant, analgesic, strength enhancing, stress relieving or supportive for vital cellular processes.

Some peptides found in Kambo are even said to have the ability to break the blood-brain barrier which allows it to reach otherwise difficult to treat areas of the body.

Words of Appreciation.

  • “Being guided in ceremony by Katie is an overall safe, loving, and grounded experience. She’s someone you can really trust to support and care for you while going deep into your own process. I trust her guidance especially because she seeks out the roots of the spiritual traditions she practices. All of her somatic work is very trauma informed as well, creating a consensual and relaxed environment.”

Thank you for your trust in allowing me to serve you this potent medicine collected from the Amazon Rainforest in Iquitos, Peru.

Kambo medicine teaches us valuable life lessons that we can apply and integrate into our daily living.

In Buddhism, there is a Pali word for Impermanence, one of the three marks of existence, Annica. To sit with Kambo is to sit with intense sensations and emotions, so we become more attuned with the temporary nature of all that exists. In this way we are able to allow and release any resistance to feelings of discomfort and aversion that show up in our day-to-day experiences.

To embrace life and all that shows up exactly as it is.

I look forward to guiding you.

In love and deep gratitude,

Katie

Step into the unknown. Lean into discomfort. That’s where the magic lies.

And remember, the journey truly begins after the session ends…
